Forxiga (brand name; also known as Farxiga) contains dapagliflozin, a sodium‑glucose co‑transporter‑2 (SGLT‑2) inhibitor. It lowers blood sugar by preventing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, which increases its excretion in urine.
It’s also approved for managing heart failure and chronic kidney disease, due to its kidney- and heart-protective effects.
📌 Indications

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (as add-on or monotherapy)

Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (10 mg daily)

Chronic kidney disease, with or without diabetes (10 mg daily)
⚙️ Dosage & Administration

Standard adult dose: 10 mg once daily (can be taken any time, with or without food)

No dose adjustment needed for renal function ≥ 25 mL/min (CKD use allowed)

In severe liver impairment, start with 5 mg, then increase if tolerated
-
Not recommended to initiate if estimated GFR < 15 mL/min/1.73 m²
