🩺 Indications

Traveler’s diarrhea caused by non-invasive E. coli (adults and children ≥ 12 years)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS‑D)

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

Prevention of Hepatic Encephalopathy, often used with lactulose
⚠️ Warnings & Precautions

Contraindications: Allergy to rifaximin or other rifamycin antibiotics

Not for use with: Bloody or febrile diarrhea or non‑E. coli infections

Use caution in: Severe liver impairment (Child‑Pugh Class C)

Possible complications: Rare risk of pseudomembranous colitis; drug interactions (e.g., P‑gp inhibitors; cyclo‑sporine)
